I believe we humans are misconceived regarding the Pit Bull breed because of constant stories from the media showing some grizzly attack on someone by this particular breed of dog. It is true that these dogs can be very dangerous as the result of and under certain conditions. It is also true that this breed of dog was in fact bred to fight hence the name Pit Bull. However, as with any dog it boils down to the environment the dog is living in, and certainly the manner it is raised. I have had several different dogs during my over fifty years existence on this planet and all of them were different breeds. Sure, there are breeds such as the Labrador retriever who has the patience of a saint around kids and would have to be threatened to become violent. However, breeds like the Pit Bull are a inquiring yet territorial in nature from birth. This does not label them a violent breed just one who is very protective of its home and the people who they are familiar. Such a breed as the Pit Bull should never be subjected to any mistreatment such as rough play, abuse, or be near people who physically abuse each other or have constant tension in the household from various verbal disagreements. The Pit Bull should never be put into a position where it may be attacked by other dogs. Such examples amplify the Pit Bulls aggressive psyche and cause the dog to act out the various forms of this type of agitation in the form of violence.
